english introduction

8va logo8va Oil ® a small step for mankind, a giant leap for brass players

Most brass players are familiar with the small trick of a few drops of valve oil in the lead pipe for a better airflow. Not many will know the scientific explanation for this phenomenon, which finds its roots in the degree of bonding between two substances (dipole moment).  Although this principal works, the effect will be minimal because of three reasons.  The dirt in the lead pipe makes the surface very uneven and creates lots of resistance; the humidity kept in the dirt will create even more resistance to the air. The most troublesome to this trick now is the formula of normal valve oil, which is not optimized for this cause.

The trusted staff at Atelier Pfeiffer, both experienced brass players looked into this concept and came up with 8va Oil ®.

By applying the
8va Oil ® on a clean and dry surface a filter is created evenly in the lead pipe.  8va Oil ®’s composition creates the biggest difference in dipole moment between the oil  and water.  8va Oil ® is not meant to oil your valves, its only objective is to increase the  airflow through the instrument.

8va Oil ® works like oil on a road. The oil decreases the resistance.  Your air consists mainly of oxygen and nitrogen, both polar.  The oil filter is non-polar.  The air will not bound with the oil filter and thus find less resistance .

8va Oil ® influences your airflow and therefore improves your  playing comfort.  You will need less energy for the same results. The same energy therefore gives you more result.  Depending on your instruments condition and material 8va Oil ® improves your range by a minor third or in some cases even a fith. Furthermore the more efficient use of energy will give a significant improved endurance. Patent 5361668(1b8va) - for brass instrument

8va Oil ® will be presented May 17th at the Dutch Yamaha Trumpetparty in Noordwijk (Netherlands). At the Atelier Pfeiffer booth you can test 8va Oil ® on your own horn, we’re looking forward to your feedback!
